About the Artist

Beginning in elementary school, Kathie felt most at home in the Art Room. She would forego recess to stay in and assist the art teacher with painting a mural on the art room wall. In high school, she took drafting classes which gave her the foundation for what would become her realism style later. These classes also assisted her in designing two houses that she and her husband have built and lived in. While raising 4 daughters in one of those homes, she began to take watercolor classes. Soon, she was teaching the classes and became involved in community arts groups, serving as Treasurer and President.
With a few experimental phases, as well as long pauses in her artistic journey, Kathie has found her voice in her Marriage Series still life paintings. This series is much to do with relationships, even the relationship that is oneself. "Sometimes I relate to the delicate porcelain, other times the sledgehammer, or other times the whole concept just makes me smile." When she began the series, it was featured in Southwest Art Magazine. Her work has been exhibited in invitational shows including:
AAR River Gallery, Westminster, CO
Shy Rabbit, Pagosa Springs, CO
Creative Art and Framing Gallery, Louisville, CO
Kathie is primarily known for her realistic still life paintings. While Realism is her main focus,
she also paints in an Impressionist style, and gets out for some Plein Air as much as possible.
With no formal art education, Kathie has gleaned much from the few workshop opportunities that she has participated in.
She paints in oil, watercolor and pastel.
Her paintings have won numerous awards and are in private and corporate collections across the country.
Kathie is a member of The Internation Guild of Realism, American Women Artists and Oil Painters of America.
